Your career development is as important to the firm as it is to you. Initially you will find a challenging yet supportive environment. As you develop and demonstrate your capabilities, you will be asked to accept a greater degree of responsibility. Internal training will prepare you to handle a client engagement from planning to sign off. You will also participate in training courses covering technical and soft skills.
Work with guidance

Hands on
You will often be working in the client's premises which will ensure exposure to a variety of business environments. You will be in direct contact with clients where social skills are almost as important as technical competence. You will learn how to ask difficult questions without giving offense. Such conversations are the source off much valuable audit and taxation evidence, and must be conducted properly.

As you progress, you may wish to specialise in a particular area, allowing you to leverage your business knowledge and provide quality advice to clients. We will keep your career path in focus through appraisals and coaching sessions.

FAQs
1. What is the graduate recruitment process like?
The recruitment process for fresh graduates may vary slightly from year to year, but the general procedure is as follows:
- Applicants to send a completed application form with a covering letter and résumé by email or by post on or before 31 March of each year.
- Selected applicants will be invited to take the written Aptitude Test between April and July. Short-listed applicants will be invited for an individual or group interview during the same period.
- Offers will be made within 12 weeks after the interview and commencement date will be further communicated with successful candidates.
We receive abundant applications each year, and so unfortunately we are unable to send a written reply to all applicants. Should you fail to hear from us by 15 July, you may deem your application to have been unsuccessful.
2. Will I be considered if I don't have a degree in accountancy?
Although it is not necessary to have a particular degree, you are encouraged to build a good accountancy foundation before joining a CPA firm, and you should enjoy working with numbers. That said, we welcome graduates from any discipline as we place a great emphasis on your overall attitude and potential, and do not focus only upon academic background.
3. What will be my career development be like?
Our employees are our most valuable asset. We continuously develop, motivate and evaluate our people in a friendly working environment. Of our current directors, most of them were internally promoted, clearly demonstrating the career prospects at Baker Tilly Hong Kong.
4. What kind of training will be provided?
There is a comprehensive staff orientation for new joiners which will allow them to become familiar with our practices. For auditors this includes an introduction to our highly acclaimed electronic audit platform. Training is regularly scheduled for staff at all levels covering both soft skills and technical training.
Obviously you will also have continuous on the job coaching from your immediate superiors. We operate a self-appraisal system whereby staff can compare their perception against their assessed performance. All these measures help you achieve and maintain a high level of competency.
Intake deadlines
The annual intake of graduates falls in October. Deadline for submission of application is 31 March. Selected candidates will be invited for test and/or interview between May to August.
Applicants who have submitted an application on or before 31 March but failed to get a response by 31 August can deem that they have failed the screening process and that their application has been deleted from our database immediately after screening.
Applications collected AFTER the 31 March deadline will be kept for a period of 6 months for future need (if any). Applicants who have submitted an application AFTER 31 March but failed to get a response within 6 months can deem that their application has been deleted from our database.
